Haiti Hydroelectric Plant Project - A sketch of what the area will look like on completion

A sketch of what the area will look like on completion

Combining the efforts of RC Metro NYC, RC Naperville Sunrise Rotary, University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez and the will and spirit of the people of Duchity, Haiti, we will build a 40 kW hydroelectric plant to serve about 10,000 people.

For over 10 years, John Ball along with Rotary Clubs in Naperville, IL, USA, and St Thomas the Apostle Church have been building infrastructure and developing strong relationships with the community of Duchity, Haiti. For a larger hydroelectric project, Rotary Naperville Sunrise, Rotary Metro NYC and the U of Puerto Rico Mayaguez have come together to fundraise and turn the plan into reality.

Duchity is a hub for commerce, communication, education and medical care in its region. Located on the main road from Les Cayes to Jeremie, it is also critical to access to the rest of Haiti. Roughly 8,000 inhabitants and another 2,000 in the surrounding area work primarily in agriculture.

A sustainable source of electricity will provide street lighting, power to the medical and dental center, lighting for community centers, libraries and other common-use facilities for increased safety, work and study after dark, and better medical care.
