The Rotary Club of Metro New York City was chartered on April 30, 2002. Our charter members are an exciting and diverse group from 9 countries, representing professions spanning engineering, education, banking, law, journalism, entrepreneurship, foreign service, biotechnology, public administration, cryptography, and international finance.

Many of our founders were Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars, Youth Exchange Students, and Rotaractors. We believe our strength is derived from this diversity, and we continuously seek new members who are interested in service and will be assets to our club.

What Sets Us Apart

Evening Meetings

We meet on Wednesdays — convenient for busy professionals. Check our event calendar for upcoming dates and locations.

Diverse Membership

Our members represent diverse professions, nationalities, religions, and perspectives — creating a broad pool of talent for projects and a vibrant club experience.

Central Location

Our members come from Westchester, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Midtown Manhattan is accessible by multiple modes of public transit.

Projects

We have structured our club from the bottom up, so that projects are led by task forces — not the board or central committees. Members are encouraged to introduce new project ideas, collect other interested members, and form their own task forces. Task forces raise their own funds and are overseen by the board.

Meetings

We use our meeting time efficiently to complete club business and share project updates, while allowing time to socialize. Some meetings feature member speakers and invited guest speakers. To create a participatory environment, each meeting is conducted by a different volunteer moderator from our membership.

Membership

Members maintain 60% meeting attendance (missed meetings can be made up at any Rotary or Rotaract club) and contribute to projects through time, expertise, or other resources. Members are encouraged to lead projects and take an active role in shaping the club throughout the year.

We seek individuals interested in service who are managers or professionals, or have retired from positions at that level. To encourage a diverse pool of expertise, Rotary International requires that no more than 10% of club members share the same professional classification.

We conduct our club business with a level of informality that fits our lifestyle. Our members are comfortable with a high level of organization and efficiency in a low-stress and approachable club. We appeal to young professionals as well as mid-career and retired people — all sharing a common interest in serving our community.
