VOLUNTEERING: LES Harm Reduction Volunteering Project
April 6 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm EDT
The Lower East Side Harm Reduction Organization is a culturally diverse, community based, non-profit organization with a mission to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and other drug-related harm among people who inject drugs. Its professionals and volunteers deliver substance use-management services with anonymity and compassion, while also training other in the practice of compassionate intervention. On April 6, we will first have a volunteer orientation session that provides a tour of the facilities and orient volunteers on what is necessary to know in order to provide syringe exchange and outreach. Opiate overdose reversal training (Narcan) will also be provided and kits available to those who would like to take them home. Lunch will be served and then we will be put together harm reduction packages that include cotton balls, clean needles, and other equipment to assure safe practices.
