Natasha Wanchek

Natasha was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bakhmut, Ukraine, from 1999-2001, working with an enthusiastic environmental NGO. Projects included an eco-tour and a student/teacher penpal program with sister city Omaha. She then continued working in international development, first in DC and now in Brooklyn.

After the war started in Ukraine this year, she raised funds for an NGO called Bakhmut Ukrainian. With support from the Ukrainian American Coordinating Council (UACC), she raised more than $21,000 from 133 donors between April and June – all for humanitarian supplies. Bakhmut is now at the frontline of the war, but the NGO continues to maintain a humanitarian aid center there, and members also work from the city of Dnipro to coordinate and deliver aid where needed. In tonight’s presentation Natasha will discuss her experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer and her efforts Bakhmut Ukraine since the war started.
